Yoga Lotus Classroom Etiquette

Dear members,

It is our intention to serve and honor you, to provide you with a calm, peaceful, courteous and respectful environment during your visit to Yoga Lotus. However, we need your assistance with the following:

As courtesy to the other students and teachers, please:

1-      Before entering the classroom. Leave your shoes in the shoe rack before entering the classroom. If you absolutely must keep your shoes or socks on, let the instructor know the reason. Turn off cell phone, pagers or beepers.

2-      Be on time. Try to get here at least 5 minutes before the class starts. If you arrive after the class has already started please WAIT until the instructor gives permission to enter the room.  DO NOT enter the room once the class has already begun unles you have permission from the instructor. Please do not save a spot for anyone. It is not fair to those that arrive on time.

3-      Cell phones, pagers, beepers. Turn cell phones, pagers and beepers OFF even if you do not take it into the classroom. Pagers and cell phones ringing during class can be very disruptive to your practice and everybody else's. If you are on call put it on "manner mode." If you must answer your call do not take it in the bathroom. Your conversation can still be heard. Take your emergency call outside the Yoga Lotus building.

4-      Water in the room. We highly recommend that you take water in the classroom but it needs to be in a container that has a top.  NO cups please.

5-      Questions and conversations. If you have any questions during class feel free to direct them to the instructor; your friend or neighbor might not be able to help you as much as the qualified teacher. Avoid talking to others while the teacher is trying to explain or demonstrate a pose. If you have personal questions contact the teacher before or after the class. If you need to talk to your friend do so after the class.

Confrontations, disagreements are to be avoided during class. Feel free to discuss your viewpoint or your concerns with the teacher or fellow student after the class is over in a friendly and non-contemptuous manner.

6-      Relaxation. DO NOT place your blocks, belts, blankets or any other props back in the rack in the middle of Relaxation. If you must use the bathroom do so before relaxation begins and not in the middle of it.

7-      Leaving early. If you need to leave early, do so before Relaxation/Meditation. As courtesy and respect to the instructor please notify him/her that you will be leaving early. AVOID making into a habit to leave early since it is disrespectful to the teacher and one does not get the full benefits of the practice and misses out on the meditation time. Remember a yoga practice is more than doing postures.

Please DO NOT leave the room in the middle of the relaxation portion -Savasana. This is a quiet time. It is extremely disruptive to peel your mat off the ground, make noises trying to open the door and leave while everyone else is trying to relax. Be respectful of others and the instructor.

These are the ways that you can help us maintain a peaceful, harmonious and enjoyable environment.  Thanks!
